We bought a Jetta TDI today

Matt and I were looking for a Jetta TDI. Didn’t realize how hard they were to find.

We looked at a few and decided on one in Austin. Matt flew to Austin this moring and drove home today with our new cute little TDI.

It’s not an F-250 but its still a diesel so Matt is happy. We are selling the truck to Carmax tonight. Matt is sad about giving up big red but in the long run it will all work out.

Trading these cars is cutting out about 11K in debt!!! Yippee! So much closer to being debt free. I ran some preliminary numbers and we should be out of debt June 2007.

Update (April 2, 2006): Carmax deal didn’t work out but we sold the truck to a private party for more than we were expecting so everything worked out for the best!!

Personal Finance links

NCN Blog

I have been reading a lot of personal finance websites and blogs. No Credit Needed is one of my favorites but there are many more out there I would like to suggest to others.

I am going to link to del.icio.us so I don’t have to re-type them all. Another reason I wanted to link to del.icio.us was so you could see how many other people also have these sites bookmarked.

Imelda’s Personal Fianance links powered by del.icio.us!

Enjoy!

Mason 10 months old

My baby is 10 months old!!! Where did the time go? I love him so much. He is at such a fun stage. He’s crawling much faster than last month but not walking yet. I can wait for that a bit longer.

Mason is 10 months old!

I am still sorta sick. Will get pictures of Mason’s 10 month birthday with Ralphy tomorrow. Time to rest. :)

Oh yes, how can I forget. I got an email from a friend I haven’t talked to in years years years. I met him back in the first grade when I was six years old making him only 1 of 2 friends I have known so long. I hope he still counts as a friend.

The common cold

I have had a cold for 2.5 days. I went to Corpus Christi for my mom’s retirement party on Saturday. I was fine all day. Matt even took me to the movies, a real rarity. We saw Failure to Launch. It was ok, I just wanted to see Matthew McConaughey! As we were driving home on Sunday, my throat started to hurt. Then my ears. Then I started sneezing. By midnight, I was feeling so bad. I had scheduled Monday off work to get a few things done, but instead I layed in bed all day. I went to get Mason from daycare and Matt took over about 45 minutes later. How do mom’s take care of kids when they are sick themselves is beyond me.

Today is Tuesday and I stayed home today too. I am still very congested and I can’t wait until my sudefed kicks in. My ears still hurt. I now have some idea what Mason must be going through with his ear infections. Maybe I need Nasonex? Commercial just came on..

Take care and pray for me :)

Debt Reduction progress

We have been listening to Dave Ramsey since before Christmas 2005. His teachings really helped us spend much less than we would have in the past.

We started our debt reduction plan and living on a budget on Jan 11, 2006. Since then we have paid down $8,224 and have almost $3,000 in savings, $2K of that new! We, of course, have also not added any new debt as well. I think that’s pretty good for 2 months time, don’t you? I don’t think we will be this aggressive the rest of the time. We got bonuses and tax returns to help out.

Dave Ramsey says “When you do good things with money, good things happen”? Just 2 days ago, my husband got a bonus from work we were just not expecting! It was great! We just thought because we have been doing smart things with our money for the past 2 months, we are already being rewarded. We are going to save half and put the other half to debt. We both feel good about this decision.

I haven’t felt I have been doing without this past 2 months. I haven’t had this feeling of “OH my gosh, I have to go shopping and charge something I can’t afford!” I haven’t felt that I can not do this. I am honest in knowing I won’t get out of debt overnight but that it will take time. I have realistic expectations.

I did almost go charge a new Apple laptop but I came back to reality a minute later. I will get a new laptop but will be paying cash for it when I am ready!

I now understand the word afford means ‘to be able to buy something with cash‘ not ‘I have enough credit to buy that and make payments‘.

My whole way of thinking about money has changed and it took being sick and tired of being sick and tired of paying for stuff I already used/bought in the past to change that.

I have enjoyed reading The NCN Blog so I joined the NCN Network for more support on debt reduction and money saving tips. There are so many people also getting out of debt and I need to be around these kind of people, in real life or online.

I don’t want to be normal, I want to be debt free!!!

I am thinking of ordering something like this for Matt now that I am packing his lunches for him.

TiVo’s new KidZone feature coming June 2006

tivo

This is a password-protected, “safe” mode that, when enabled, automatically displays only the shows you pre-approve for your kids. This is something I have wanted all along because my kid watches too much TV. I can also now record and lock shows I want to record without worrying she will watch them. Read more about TiVo’s new KidZone feature coming to Series2 boxes in June 2006.
