L is for Labels

Labels

I have been wanting to get note cards and label everything in the how for Mason. Now that he knows his letter sounds, I think seeing words on items will help him with early reading. Now I don’t have to because Wendy and her mom Janet already did the work.

When we were toddlers, my mother labeled everything in our house—doors, windows, closets. As we got our clothes, we saw the word “closet.” As we tinkered on the piano, we saw the word “piano.” We absorbed what was part of our daily environment. She’s a teacher, and her philosophy is that if you surround young children with the tools they need to learn, over time, they will simply choose to explore that which surrounds them. And through that exploration, they can acquire vast knowledge.

Tool-kit that includes:

  • 300+ word labels, with low-tack adhesive for easy removability
  • duplicate word labels for high-traffic areas
  • 50 water-resistant labels for kitchen and bath
  • labels for the numbers 1 thru 50
  • 50 directional labels
  • 30 blank labels
  • 1 label t-shirt and Sharpie, to label the important thing…your child!

I already placed my order & hope you do too, if you have a toddler that is. :)

I don’t have a toddler but I think this is a fantastic idea. I think the more we can do for our kids to accentuate their learning without overwhelming them, the better prepared they are to deal with the world. An idea like this appeals to me so much more than say, making them do flash cards for thirty minutes twice a day as some parents I know do with their kids.

This is a great idea! We love the labeling idea. It IS what teachers do in pre-school and kindergarten classrooms. Wonderful!

Wow, I LOVE this idea. The twins are only 9 months but I am very tempted to order these before I forget about them later when they are toddlers! Great site, Imelda!
