Family Code
Is it sad that the phrase “I gotta go to the bathroom really bad!!” means “I need some time with my wireless device“?
Even my daughter is in on it! Whether it be a MacBook, a ThinkPad, an iPhone, a RAZR, a Dash, a Blackberry, or a Q, we have them all here. It just seems more and more time is spent in the bathroom with devices, even if we AREN’t actually making anything.
How about you or your family? Do ya’ll use devices in the bathroom, closet, car or garage in secret? Do you have any cover-up code for this? I’d really like to know so I’m running a contest.

lol … sounds like my house. The bathroom is like dedicated iPhone tie without the kids screaming to play wii. I have thought about putting a dedicated mac in the bathroom for constructive multi-tasking. Great post. thanks

Confession: Once I excused myself to “go to the bathroom” at La Madeleine when I felt like I needed to update Twitter. I felt pretty lame. But that’s the only instance that I can remember when I was doing that in secret.

I’d love to say that we have some kind of special code, but in our house, “I’ll be there when we finish this raid” and “you should come read [such and such discussion] in irc” are oft-used phrases. Even in the bathroom, we feel no need to hide our technophilia. ;-)
The latest one that is my new favorite from my husband, who does not get or want to get social media. He’ll come in and peek at my laptop screen and look at me with the “I just caught your hand in the cookie jar” look, and say “you’re TWITTERING, aren’t you?” ^_^

The bathroom is no longer a safe place because as soon as I make my move to get in there, my daughter is running after me yelling “Potty?!” Now, I have to distract her with Annie and some snacks so I can access my stuff without her trying to grab the phone/computer.
