Archives for December, 2009
Goodbye 2009.. Hello 2010
It’s a time of reflection.. this being the last post of the decade and all..
I’m not a writer, but I give it a try, sometimes
I’m spending the last few hours of 2009 with Mason and Danielle, just hanging out. Oh and of course listening to Blanca cry from the fireworks. Matt and Jack are sleeping.
I thought I’d take note of what I’ve learned so far about me:
- I’m not a dog person
- I love watching Matt with the boys. You just see *love* spewing from him when he is with them. I couldn’t have asked for a better father for them
- I complicate my life and need to remember to keep things simple and clutter free
- I tried a few things I didn’t complete but finished the most important things
- I love playing LEGOs with Mason
- I LOVE my family and am very grateful for them, even though some days I don’t show it
- I’ve made so many contacts over the last few years, but still only have a few people in my life I call friends. I wished that more contacts became friends, but just thankful for the ones I have.
- I LOVE George Clooney’s voice
- I lost my Grandma Anita in 2009 but what she taught me, will always be with me
- Never thought I’d work for big oil
A few goals for 2010:
- Not complicate my life, but take on what I can handle
- The standard stuff like eat healthy and exercise more
- Don’t get overwhelmed by media like blogs, blog writing, podcasts, tv
- Spend more time on photography since it truly is one of my favorite hobbies
- Find more freelance work, but if not, no big deal
- Work to figure out my dream in life and my purpose
- Continue to find balance between me time, family time, work time, spiritual time..
- Travel more or just move to Colorado
That’s it for now.. Goodbye 2009… Bring on 2010!
2009 LEGO City Advent Calendar
This Christmas we are going to do a 2009 LEGO City Advent Calendar. Mason has started to like Legos and thought this would be a fun way to teach him about Christmas.
Will post a photo daily.
Well the post daily didn’t happen, because life happens but here is the completed set!
Mason LOVED this way of working up to Christmas! Thanks to all who enjoyed playing along with us. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas from Mason and Santa
Best of 2009: New Food

My best food find of 2009? Easy, the onion rings from Jake’s Grill in Pearland, Texas. Even if you don’t like onion rings, try them.
I was never a fan of onion rings but would steal one of Matt’s here or there. This year, not sure if it was me being pregnant, but something came over me and I fell in love with these onion rings. I ate them more than I want to admit.
When my mother-in-law told me that these were the best onion rings she had eaten in 30 years, that kind of made me realize how good they must be. I didn’t have anything to compare them to.
I did try onion rings at a place I don’t want to name, and they were horrible. Take me back across the street to Jake’s and fast!
If you are in the Houston area, I totally recommend a quick trip down 288 to Pearland to try them for yourself.
LEGO House 6754
Who says only dads get to have fun with LEGOs and their sons? Not me!
We took Mason to the LEGO store for the first time Wednesday night and we had a blast. We were up so late that night, he stayed home from school the next day. All we did Thursday was play LEGOs while staying in our pajamas. Here’s the finished project.
If you view the photo set on Flickr, you might think Mason wasn’t involved and that I did this all by myself. He did help but I am that much of a LEGO geek that I would totally play LEGOs all on my own. :)
Can’t wait to build more. I hear Santa is bringing us more LEGOs!
