Hurricane Ike 2008

Hurricane Ike 2008. What to say?

Our family evacuated at 11am on Thursday to Austin, Texas to my brother-in-law’s house as well as my sister-in-law’s parents house. My in-laws and Matt’s 98 year old grandmother is also with is. We are sooo thankful for Dan and Margaret and their family for taking us in and feeding us. Mason loves Mr. Jim and his fish pond.

We have been lucky to be able to spend more time with our new 5 month old niece too!

All we could do was watch TV and stay connected via web, email and Twitter, thank god.

We are so thankful to my sister and neighbors who have given us updates on our house and city. Apparently our house is fine on the outside but a down fence. No idea what the inside is like, I hope dry.

It’s Sunday night at about 11pm and our house still has no power. As soon as it does we are going home, but taking it day by day. Matt, Mason and I got to go out for a bit. For a second I thought this was a vacation but need to save money since we have no idea what supplies we may need. We went to Luby’s for dinner, took Mason to play at Zilker Park until dark, then headed to Austin Java on Barton Springs to relax. We needed the time on our own for a bit and it was a beautiful night.

Austin Java hitting the spot!

This is a photo of Chevron, where I work. I’m not in this building but across the street and there are many windows out there too. I will be out of work at least until Thursday since schools are also out.

Chevron [Enron Tower] lost some windows during Hurricane Ike.

Back to more news coverage.

Miss all our Houston area friends and family and wishing the best.

This past weekend…

My best friend KC and her kids were visiting Texas from California and we met up with them in Austin.

Here is a set of photos I took while driving to Austin. Matt never stops to let me take photos, but this time was different. He turned around all on his own and took me to a “Scenic Overlook” on Highway 71. We got to Austin and visited with Dan and Margaret in their newly remodeled home. It looks great! Then we met up with KC and our other friend Jennifer who lives in Austin at South Park Meadows in South Austin. This place used to be a concert venue and now its all commercial. It rained when we got there but it finally stopped and we were still able to eat Amy’s Ice Cream and Mama Fu’s Asian House. Yummy! The kids liked the play scape and ice cream and the big kids enjoyed visiting.

The next day we woke up to Dan already gone but got to hang out with Margaret. We locked up and then ate breakfast at Taco Shack on Lamar at 40th. We’ve been here a number of times and the food is always tasty! We stopped to let me take a few photos of The Capital and Congress. I didn’t take my phone and Matt has to move because the meter man was coming and so he drove around for 15 minutes trying to find me. That was no fun for him. Good thing was I could hear his little TDI zip around all the one ways an anticipate where he could come by next.

We then headed south to meet KC and her sister Katy for a while and said our goodbyes. We were next off to the Snake Farm in New Braunfels, Texas. We had recently watched an episode of Dirty Jobs were Mike Rowe visits the Snake Farm. We had been before but it had been years and we were in the area so what the heck. Mason loved the snakes! The other animals were sad but we are told the new owners are improving the place. Take a look of the photos. Let me know if you can help me identify some of the snakes.

Ho on the Go!

My bestfriend has a friend how lives in Austin, Texas and has quite the product for sale. I don’t live in Austin, haven’t in over 13 years but do know there are many single people there that might need a product just like this. Introducing.. Ho on the Go, the original overnight kit for the modern one-night-stand! She probably could have made a killing at ACL.
