H-E-B Plus! Opening tomorrow

Why am I so excited to have a grocery store opening? For visitors outside of Texas, H-E-B is the best grocery store in the world with the best prices.

I grew up in Corpus Christi and H-E-B ruled there. H-E-B, or H.E. Butt Grocery Company, is based out of San Antonio and there weren’t any stores north of Austin for many many years.

When I moved to Dallas, it was Randall’s and there was no H-E-B in the area.

Then I moved to Houston and all there really were were H-E-B Pantry Stores, very basic grocery stores that didn’t have a deli or pharmacy. Houston got an H-E-B Central Market a few years ago and that’s a great specialty store, but not somewhere you’d go all the time.

When I moved to the suburbs, there was an H-E-B Pantry in Pearland but it soon closed so I was stuck with Kroger or god forbid, Wal-mart. Randall’s was the closest to my house but way too expensive. Kroger was considered the ‘bad’ grocery store when I was a kid so I really had a bad feeling about shopping there at first, but I got over it.

The first H-E-B Plus! Opened last year in Corpus Christi and it look me a whole weekend to see it. They have sooo much stuff!

Kroger and Randall’s have both remodeled and have had grand re-openings recently, I think in hopes of being able to compete with H-E-B Plus!. I don’t think that will work, H-E-B will prevail.

There was an open house of the new store today but I didn’t go. It was Mason’s dinner time and it would be torture not being able to buy anything. Pearland is very excited to have the doors open at 6am tomorrow morning. I won’t be there that early but I know people that will, a few are even calling in sick!

H-E-B Plus! Here I come. Don’t let me down!
